47 FRANCE - NIGERIA 1944 (Sept) Airmail Cover from France to Peru, censored in Nigeria, with October and November back stamps. One stamp removed upper left. Per Boyle, the French military “airline” TAM was providing limited air service from France to Algiers in early September, 1944, but regular airmail service to the overseas territories did not begin until 23 October. Super nice usage in spite of the missing stamp £15.00

52 GERMANY - FRANCE 1944 Frankfurt Ae civil censor and Buchenwald KL censor handstamps on cover from French prisoner Andre Jucquelier to France. The sender was a member of the French Astronomical Society. He is reported to have been transferred from Buchenwald to Dora (sub-camp of Buchenwald where work on the V1 and V2 rockets was performed) where he died in February 1945. KL covers to France are scarce, and this one has an unusually good story £120.00

56 GREAT BRITAIN 1939 (Oct) CCSG Ty. H 3B handstamp on photo postcard (showing the ship) with Italian Motonave Saturnia postmark tying Italian postage, to Germany. Not sure whether this censorship was the result of normal scheduling or because the Saturnia was directed to the UK by the RN. Later history of the ship is interesting: “In May 1940 the ship, stopped in New York, was interned despite Italy still not belligerent; it was then painted white and transformed into a hospital ship.” £15.00
57 GB 1941 CCSG Ty. 17 handstamp on part of parcel with British Board of Film censors label and a truly impressive franking include 13 of the 10/ dark blue (SG 478). Magnificent accompaniment for this censor handstamp £80.00

105 TRINIDAD 1945 (12 Sept) Imperial Censorship Central Registry handstamp on back of OHMS cover to Brazil. Apparently only one other example reported (CCSG [2016] Ty. CH12 – though the catalog example shown is wholly sans serif, while this is not, I think the catalogue example is the result of cleaning up a photocopy). This is clearly an administrative handstamp, and is likely one of the last gasps of censorship in Trinidad. Per the CCSG Catalogue, Appendices pgs. xxxvii and xliii “All work ceased at Trinidad on 22nd August, 1945.” At that time, the British West Indies stations were ordered to “Proceed to close stations in accordance instructions already sent.” Cover with horizontal fold, otherwise fine More £35.00
