Brunei 1915 piece

Postby HigginsJ » Mon Nov 09, 2020 3:23 pm

Hi,
I am a very new member, I only collect British Borneo / East Malaysia. I attach a scan of a piece from Brunei with a censor cachet. I am tols no censorship in Brunei or S.E. Asia during WWI so where did it pick up the censor chop or is it a forgery.
Many thanks,
Jon Higgins

I think there should be no problem with this check mark. I wonder if it is a check mark for the Straits Settlements (Singapore)

This marking was applied in Singapore and the wording is actually Passed Censor Singapore, the Singapore portion is weak but it shows enough to conclusively place it. The censor follows the pattern of the mark designated SH1 and it should measure 71 x 3.5mm...It is known used March and April 1915....The earliest date that I am aware of is on a cover in transit cancelled Batavia 26 March 1915..........Mike...www.mikewhiteuk.com
