RELEASED BY O.N.I. Is this civil censorship?

Postby jmgarcar » Tue Jun 16, 2020 1:01 am

Hello all members

For your consideration, I upload a postcard with Washington D.C . handstamp (U.S. Fleet Post Office) dated Sept. the 4th, 1945 over a Panamanian postage and blue censor mark RELEASED BY O.N.I., addressed to New Hampshire . As far as I know. O.N.I. stands for Office of Naval Inteligence, a section of the U.S. Army. But it looks like a regular civil mail: no APO, no Army censor.......

Any help/information will be welcome.

Many thanks

Hi,

You are correct that ONI stands for Office of Naval Intelligence.

However, this is, as it says, Naval -- and the US Navy and US Army are separate branches of the US military.

No, i|I is not civil censorship.

Dann.
