Thai or Singapore Censor Markings??

Postby shawahd » Wed Aug 29, 2018 3:21 pm

Dear All

CCSG Article Oct 2002 Vol 29 No 4 Page 145-156 WWII Thailand Al Shumsky

I have been using this above article as my main reference for Thai Censor Marks...

i am trying to see if the Circle 8 Mark and the Circle 1 Mark are Thai Censor Marks???

Circle 8 is 11mm
Circle 1 is 12mm

On Page 147 of the above article it states that “No known international mail emanating from Bangkok before December 1940 bears a Thai Censor Mark. The earliest reported cover bearing Thai marking is 7 December 1940….”

I have recently acquired the attached two items:

25-Feb-40 Palembang to Amsterdam via air mail Singapore censor Type 2A
26-Jun-40 Sourabaya to San Francisco via air mail Singapore censor Type 4A

They may have transited in BKK and it seems like Thai Censor markings – if so….possibly way before the Dec 1940 date mentioned in this article – but since no bangkok CDS can not be certain

Can anyone assist

thanks so much
dave
