One of my interests is the POW mail from Canada during WW2. POW mail to Germany normally passed through the German censor station in Berlin. In late 1944, due to bomb damage, the censors moved temporally to a base at Tempelhoff resulting in a change in the cachet applied. I have seen covers with the Tempelhoff cachet dated october 1944 but wondered if there is any information available about the actual dates between which this cachet was used

Hello John,
I've just joined the CCSG and so had not seen your query before.
At first I was mystified by your reference to 'Tempelhoff' (Tempelhof is one of Berlin's airports) but then realised that you must be talking about the town of Hof (code letter 'h'), to which censorship of incoming German POW mail was moved in October 1944. According to Landsmann (his 2008 self-published work in German, updating Riemer 1978 amongst other things) the Hof Pruefstelle/Zensurstelle functioned on into April 1945, outlived I believe only by Kopenhagen and Oslo.
