Colonia Eritrea Censura nº 1 and C circled mark from Egypt?

Postby jmgarcar » Fri Mar 19, 2021 2:20 am

Hi everyone

Please, find attached images of PPC posted on 13/Nov/18 from Madrid (Spain) to Asmara (Eritrea) via Port Said (datestamp 17/Dec/18).

It was censored using the COLONIA ERITREA - CENSURA Nº 1 two-lines mark. According to Alan Becker´s "The Censorship of the Civil Mails in Italy and its Colonies during WW1" this mark was applied from 28/Oct/16 to 20/Dec/18, so looks like its a very late usage. Only nº 1 censor is known

My question is about the C circled mark. Is it a censor mark from Egypt? The 30 circled mark, is it a censor number?

Thanks in advance.

Best regards
José M.

Hello José M.

The "C" is a dumb mark of Egypt censorship, Firebrace Type DM8, used in Port Said 15.7.1916 - 9.9.1919

not sure about the 30
