French Censorship - strange triangular mark "ON"?

thanks! Interesting cover, do you know who applied the "not censored" mark?

I have studied this mark in more detail. The evidence points to the French censorship organization for the NO-mark in Salonica. However, if it was used by an actual censor or a "postage sorter" is not 100% clear.

Hi,

If you are referring to the Xiao cover, that is a Hong Kong Not Opened handstamp.

Good morning.
Another cover with the Salonique triangle mark (different type, I think)

Best regards

very interesting cover, thanks! Seems to be consistent with my findings:
- upon arrival in Salonica it received the NO mark (like other incoming mail)
- Salonica censors did not deal with it further, there might have been an agreement with Greek military censorship to not censor items addressed to them
- forwarded to Greek military, where it was censored with sealing label and large circular mark by the Central Military Censorship (not fully clear where this censorship operated)

thanks, I'm in intensive discussions with Jérome Bourguignat (from whose book this scan is coming from). I'm preparing an article on my findings for the CCSG bulletin.

Hi again!

Another example of triangle ON/NO mark in mail from Greece to Washinton D.C. in 1917, censored in Bologna by Italian censorship.
